Enneagram Type 6

Enneagram Type 6 - The Guardian, The Loyalist - they are responsible, questioning, and unsure of the unfamiliar, while they fear uncertainty, not being able to survive on their own, and not having support.

Enneagram Type 6 symbolic animal - the wolf.

They are exemplified by the wolf - loyal, cooperative, and highly attuned to the environment.

They tend to focus on internal questions, and checking evidence.  They are highly motivated to be prepared.

At their best....

Type 6s are life's stalwarts.  They are dutiful, committed, and self-sacrificing.

They are natural team-players, building coalitions, and supporting and protecting their 'inner circle'.

They assess risk, solve problems, and tend to cope very well in a crisis as a result of having mentally prepared for every eventuality.

They have the ability to bring steady support to the present moment.

Patterns that might cause problems....

Enneagram Type 6s might have noticed that they:

  • paradoxically seek to become independent by getting support from others
  • can be suspicious and hypervigilant
  • feel victimised and place blame without taking action to solve their issues
  • overcommit themselves through trying to be loyal

They use these behaviours in an effort to maintain their sense of security.

Type 6s may eventually come to realise that their constant worry is creating the opposite effect and causing more problems instead.

A desire to break free from these patterns of behaviour is the first step for those who are dominant in Enneagram Type 6 to turn their lives around, and reorient themselves towards their soul's true intention.

How do I know if I'm a Type 6?

Taking an Enneagram test will give you an indication of what your dominant type MIGHT be, but it cannot give you a definitive answer.

Some people can spot their dominant type straight away just by reading a description.  Others may take some time to work out which description fits best.

My advice is to start by looking at the motivation for each type.

Type 6s are motivated by the desire to feel safe and secure, to have support and guidance, to be prepared.

Which of the 9 motivations is most important to you?

EFT Tapping for Enneagram Type 6

Look for specific events where you learned that you had no support or guidance.

How did you know it was risky to trust caregivers or authority figures?

Remember! - EFT Tapping is extremely powerful and can uncover intense emotions very quickly.

If you know or suspect that there are unsettling or traumatic events in your past, do not use EFT without the assistance of a suitably qualified practitioner.
